Planers, also known as planers or cut-off machines, are machine tools used to plane wood, plastics, and other materials to create a smooth, flat surface. They usually have one or more rotating planer blades that cut the material from one or both sides. Shapers, also known as tenoning machines or mortisers, are machine tools used to make holes or grooves (called mortises) in wood or other materials. They usually have a vertical drill spindle that drills through the material and a small wood drill bit that takes out the material. Broaching machines, also known as template milling machines or template drills, are machine tools used to mill or drill templates or patterns into wood or other materials. They usually have a horizontal milling spindle or a vertical drill that machines the material according to a predefined template.
